Police search for ATM skimmer

Posted: Updated:
DUNWOODY, Ga. -

Dunwoody police are searching for a man who they say attached a credit card skimmer to a SunTrust ATM.

A woman alerted police about an incident she encountered at the ATM. She said her card went a lot further into the machine than she's used to, so she pulled on the device and it came out.

Police say the suspect was seen five days later in Florida doing the exact same thing.

Skimming is when thieves use simple electronic devices to steal your banking information. According to police, it's a device that will fit directly over the ATM slot where you put the card into the ATM.

The device then reads the information from your card's magnetic strip, transmitting it to the thieves.

Authorities say the suspect behind the skimming is a man in his late teens, possibly early twenties. The thief was caught on camera.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for any information that could lead to an arrest. If you have any information you are asked to contact the Dunwoody Police Department.
