4 Firefighters Hurt When ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Goes Awry

Posted: Updated:

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It's hard to believe the ALS "Ice Bucket Challenge" could cause serious injuries, but in Kentucky four firefighters helping a college band with the challenge are hurt.

One of them is in critical condition while doctors have just upgraded another to stable condition.

And here's what went so horribly wrong: Police say they had just finished dousing cold water on the Campbellsville University Marching Band. They were lowering their fire truck's ladder with two men in it when it got too close to a power line.

The firefighters in the bucket and in the truck were shocked.

The firefighter most seriously hurt is in a burn unit.

Officials say power was knocked out for 4,500 customers in the area for about an hour after the incident.
