Mom charged with forcing kids to steal

Posted: Updated:
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

A mother is accused of telling her three children to steal new shoes from a store in Coweta County.

Katrice Wright, 34, allegedly told the kids to go with her into an Academy Sports and Outdoors store and steal their new shoes for school.

All three children are under the age of 10.

Police said Wright was no stranger to the crime of shoplifting.

"She has a criminal history for shoplifting," said Col. James Yarborough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Wright solicited the help of her three young children to steal by having them try on new pairs of shoes and place the old ones in the boxes. Yarborough said the family attempted to walk out, but deputies were waiting at the door for them. The store's loss prevention officers had spotted the family.

Deputies have charged Wright with shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of minors. In addition, she is charged with giving law enforcement a fake name.

Investigators did not charge the children.
