WHITEHAVEN, Tenn. (FOX13) -
Thousands of Elvis fans are in town for Elvis week. They come from everywhere, but there is one thing they all have in common. MORE: Elvis Week 2014 Event Schedule
It's another beautiful day in Memphis and right in the middle of Elvis week. Normally the heat and humidity are stifling but on this day it was in the low sixties at sun up and could not have been nicer for the thousands of fans who have come to Memphis.
They are here to pay their respects to a man who died 37 years ago. If that were not amazing enough, when you meet Elvis fans and talk to them you find out how truly amazing this continuing story is.
No matter what their age, whether they are men, women or children, they all have something in common. They all love Elvis. They just have different ways of showing it.
Some fans show it by sending flowers. Others wear the King's image on t-shirts and just about everything else. Others show it by showing up at Graceland year after year.
Donna and Kylee Galloway are from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and have been to Graceland more than 20 times. When asked what is the appeal, they say, “it's just fun!”
Then you have Elvis fans that show their love by wearing the king everywhere. Every day, for the rest of their lives, they wear the King.
Sharon O'Brian is from England. She has five tattoos with the image of Elvis. She says she's been a fan for more than 40 years. When I asked her what is it about Elvis you love, she responds, “Just everything.”
And that is why fans keep coming back to Graceland year after year, with no end in sight.
