Part of Brown Line to close this weekend on NW Side

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Trains will not run between two Northwest Side Brown Line stations over the weekend because of maintenance work.

Service between the Kimball and Western stations will be suspended from 2 a.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Monday, according to the CTA. Trains will operate normally between Western and the Loop.

Free bus shuttles will operate as a substitute making stops in both directions at the Western and Kimball stations, according to the statement. Travelers can also take the No. 81 Lawrence bus, which stops on Lawrence at Rockwell, Sacramento and Kedzie.

The CTA advises customers to allow 15-20 minutes of extra travel time when taking the Brown Line over the weekend.

Longer trains will run every 10 minutes for customers heading to the Air & Water Show or the Albany Park World Festival.

The construction project includes replacing deteriorating wooden rail ties, tie plates and other track materials to create a smoother ride, according to the CTA.
