Ty Hoffman still at-large, wanted for murder of Lush co-founder

Posted: Updated:

There's still no sign of the suspect police are looking for in Monday morning's deadly shooting at an Arden Hills, Minn. gas station. Investigators want to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of 44-year-old Ty Hoffman (legal name Lyle Marvin Hoffman).

Call the Ramsey County sheriff's office at 651-266-7320 or 911 with any information.

Police believe Hoffman shot and killed 48-year-old Kelly Phillips on Monday after the two had some sort of fight. The men were former “life partners” and also co-founded Lush Food Bar in northeast Minneapolis back in 2009.

Dean Schlaak, owner of the nearby Wilde Roast Cafe, was aware of a disagreement between Phillips and Hoffman that could have precipitated the murder.

“There were some issues going on with the bar and Kelly was taking control of it, and I don't think Ty appreciated or liked that,” Schlaak said. “Once they put it together I was like, ‘Yeah, I could see something like this maybe happening, unfortunately.'”

The shooting was reported just after 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11 at the Holiday gas station near Highway 96 and Round Lake Road in Arden Hills. According to witnesses, two men were arguing inside of a BMW that pulled into the gas station. Witnesses told Fox 9 a backseat passenger got out of the car and started running. The driver then got out and shot him in the back before walking over and shooting the victim in the back of the head. The driver then got back into the car and ran over the victim before fleeing the scene.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office on Tuesday confirmed Phillips died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Tuesday afternoon, a SWAT team searched two hangars at Anoka County-Blaine Airport in connection with Monday's murder, but the hangars were cleared with no sign of Ty Hoffman.
