60 Dogs, Puppies Rescued In Tippah County

Posted: Updated:
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - More than 60 dogs and puppies, many in need of urgent veterinary care, were rescued from deplorable conditions in Blue Mountain, Miss.

The animals were living outside with a lack of basic care; conditions on the property include no access to clean water, sufficient food or adequate shelter.

Upon arriving at the property, the Tippah County Sheriff's Office served a warrant and the owner surrendered most of the dogs. The Humane Society of the United States, Tupelo-Lee Humane Society and local veterinarians assisted authorities with the rescue and removal of all of the animals.

Lydia Sattler, Mississippi state director for The HSUS, said, "These dogs were forced to live outside with no water, suffering and in some cases dying from their circumstances. But starting today, they'll have access to the basic care they so desperately need. We're grateful to Tippah County Sheriff's Office for taking action and asking us to help these animals."

Some of the dogs are extremely underweight and suffering from untreated medical conditions, including old broken limbs and open wounds. Many have respiratory problems, flea and tick infestations and are dehydrated.

The animals were safely transported to an emergency shelter where they will be thoroughly examined by teams of veterinarians and receive any necessary medical treatment. PetSmart Charities is providing the necessary food, supplies and enrichment items for the dogs.
