Woman run over by wakeboarding boat near Crosslake, Minn.

CROSSLAKE, Minn. (KMSP) -

A 21-year-old woman from Greenwood, Minn. was run over by a wakeboarding boat after falling over the front end Saturday on Whitefish Lake, near Crosslake, Minn.

At about 6:30 p.m., the Crow Wing County sheriff’s office learned Maria Nerness was injured on Whitefish Lake after falling from the boat driven by Thomas Ryan, 24, of Denver, Colo.

Nerness suffered severe lacerations to her leg after the boat ran her over. North Aircare transported Nerness from the scene to North Memorial Medical Center and Ryan was arrested on suspicion of boating under the influence. The incident is still under investigation.

The Crow Wing County sheriff’s office was assisted by the Crosslake and Pequot Lakes Police Departments, North Ambulance and the Ideal Fire Department.
