CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

A U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms official says the agency is trying to determine where a man obtained a gun used to wound the executive of a Chicago company.

Chicago police say Tony DeFrances pulled a gun during a meeting with ArrowStream CEO Steven LaVoie. LaVoie was shot in the head and abdomen during a struggle. DeFrances fatally shot himself.

The 60-year-old DeFrances, who was listed on the company's website as the company's chief technology officer, was demoted during a company downsizing.

ATF spokesman Tom Ahern says a top priority is to trace the gun used in the shooting to its source. The information will be given to Chicago police to aid in their investigation.

The 54-year-old LaVoie was reported in critical condition late Friday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
