Lincoln Park firefighters meet baby they helped deliver

Posted: Updated:
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - It was a reunion that couldn't come soon enough. A local mom got a chance to thank the firefighters who helped bring her baby girl into the world.

"I was going into contractions at 11 in the morning but they were like 15 to 20 minutes apart so I didn't think anything of it. I thought it was just Braxton Hicks [contractions], and then they just got really close together really quick," says Amanda Manning.

She and her aunt never made it to the hospital that day. Instead, she had her baby in the drive way of the Lincoln Park Fire Department.

"From basements and crawl spaces to front seats of cars, you never know where its going to happen," says Andy Emler of the Lincoln Park Fire Department. Aubree was Emler's 18th delivery and his firefighter friend Dennis Gratopp's second.

"Right now it's kind of overwhelming just to see her now, all cleaned up and doing fine. It's heartwarming," says Gratopp.

On Monday they all recalled Aubree's unexpected arrival.

"She didn't believe me when I told her I was having a baby in the car," says Manning.

That happened way quicker than any of Manning's three other kids and amazingly way smoother, too.

"Hats off to mom. Ninety percent was done by the time we got there. She just needed a little support, just a couple details at the end and we were very fortunate to be there," says Emler.

And Manning was happy to have them there. It's the beginning of an unbreakable bond and an unbelievable birth. Weighing in at 5 pounds 13 ounces, the little lady is already making an impression

"They are awesome. I couldn't have asked for better help," Manning says.

Manning wants the firefighters who brought her baby into the world to be part of her world. She plans to bring little Aubree here every so often so they can see her grow up.
