PEORIA, Ariz. - It's called Geekfest 2014; the goal is to encourage students to embrace science.

To help get the message out, the nationally recognized, award-winning Falcon Robotics Team from Carl Hayden High Schoo was therel.

"I love that there are robots everywhere," said Zeek Clemons.

Haven for "Zeek the Geek," a name he chooses to go by.

"I thought it'd be kind of nice; it goes with Geekfest, my grandma actually prepared the glasses by actually breaking them. It's really, really, really, really, fun to dress like you belong here," he said.

Geekfest 2014 takes place at the Sunrise Mountain Peoria Public Library exhibits, and they showcase the science behind roller coasters, robots, and just about everything else.

"There just so enthusiastic, their love of learning, and they want to know everything and have so many questions," said Ken Whitley, a teacher at Carl Hayden HS.

"It's awesome, it's just really, really, awesome. Really cool to see all the kids having fun... the brains behind Geekfest went before the city council and asked for the money to launch the event," said Ethan Daukas.

"I love that we can explore all these robotics, and have a good time while doing it," said Zeek.

FOX 10 asked Zeek what he wanted to do when he grew up. "I want to be a helpful scientist and discover cures... for cancer and certain diseases," said Zeek.

At Geekfest, kids had a chance to meet members of the Carl Hayden High School Robotics Team. The team was the inspiration for a Hollywood movie that debuted in the valley last week, it stars George Lopez and Jamie Lee Curtis.
