105-year-old woman to throw out first pitch

Posted: Updated: Jul 18, 2014 01:25 PM

At 105 years old, Agness McKee shows now sign of slowing down.  The California woman will become the oldest person to toss the ceremonial first pitch at a Padres game when she takes the field Sunday.

"I have no advice, I have no idea how I got to be this old. I tell people I enjoy life, I am a happy person," McKee says.

In honor of her big day, McKee was chosen to throw the first pitch at a game versus the New York Mets.

Basball, Agness says, was her late husband's passion.  “I am very honored to do this, it’s exciting and I hope I can get through it,” said McKee, who weighs around 90 pounds and stands just shy of 5 feet. “I was really glad I got up this morning, I was afraid I wouldn’t.”

For the last several months, in between bridge and bingo games, McKee said she has been practicing for the perfect underarm pitch.

“When this happened I tried to learn some of the names of the ball players in case somebody asks me that,” said McKee. “My husband played baseball and we went to many games when we lived in Cleveland.”

When she was done with the first pitch she planned to enjoy a beer and a hot dog in the stands.

McKee credits her optimism and positive outlook on her milestone achievement.

“My main thing is to enjoy everyday as it comes along, don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet,” said McKee.

And, by the way, her favorite things to do are drink Martinis and dance.
