GREENSBORO, Ga. - Update:

Good news for a Greensboro family whose social media plea to find a kidney for Raleigh Callaway turned into a social media hit. After thousands of strangers flooded Emory willing to be a donor, Callaway is scheduled for a kidney transplant. The Callaway family says that the man is from Texas and he saw the FOX 5 story on his local affiliate. The man says he felt it was a calling from God. The family met with the potential donor last week and found out Thursday that the surgery has been approved. The donor will arrive in Atlanta on September 23 and the surgery is scheduled for September 25.

A family from Greensboro, Ga is reaching out to the community to help find a kidney donor. Police officer Raleigh Callaway, 49, needs a kidney as he battles diabetes, hypertension and chronic disease.

Raleigh Callaway is now in Stage five kidney failure.

“It only takes one donor, but it takes a lot of people to be tested to find that match,” wrote wife Kristi Callaway.

Raleigh served his community as a police officer and investigator for 24 years. He has been married 10 years and has three children.

For those who wish to take part in trying to save Raleigh's quality of life by finding a compatible kidney, you will need to get tested to see if you are the donor match he needs.

“According to Emory Hospital, the initial blood work and the 24 hour urine collection is a part of the pre-screening process.  It will be covered by special funding through Emory so the costs to the potential donor will be zero,” wrote Kristi Callaway.
