CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Some say money can buy you happiness but apparently only to a certain point.

A new study done state-by-state set out to find out just how much money it takes to make you happy. The answer might surprise you - it's not millions of dollars. It's not even a six-figure salary.

In Illinois, if you make $72,000 a year, you're good but anything more than that really doesn't add to your happiness.

According to an analysis from a research and investment group, the higher the cost of living, the more you need to earn to make you happy.

In Hawaii for example the "happiness threshold" is $122,000 a year.

In Mississippi, your happiness stops at $66,000 a year.
