Family Finds Facebook Account Posing As Deceased Father

Posted: Updated:

BELTON, SC- A South Carolina family is in shock, after someone allegedly created a Facebook account posing as a deceased loved one.

Harry Friar has thirty eight friends and a family photo as his profile picture.

"Like mmm.. no that's not my daddy. I know where he's at. That's not my daddy," said daughter Delynn Lang.

Lang knows it, because her family made Dolly Cooper Veterans' Cemetery the final resting place for their father.

Needless to say, it shocked them to hear from family and friends as far away as Ohio.

They say Harry Friar added them as friends on Facebook this past week.

"We were all kinda like, stunned you know," said Lang.

She says one cousin even tried to message the new Facebook friend.

"Started talking to them, and they blocked her. Unfriended her. She thought it might have been mom, but mom doesn't do internet or nothing like that," Lang said.

Lang says her father, a pastor for the church of god, had been very active on Facebook when he was alive, talking to a lot of people and posting inspirational quotes.

The family left his genuine page up since he died last July as a place for people to memorialize him, or write notes to him.

It seems as though this harry friar.. Joined Facebook this week with similar stats.

"Just got married. Kinda strange," said Lang.

I checked policies on how to handle someone who has died.

Families can request that a page be memorialized, which means it can stay on Facebook.

But there's no log in information so people can't change it.

And with proper documentation, people can also have pages removed.

But Lang is nervous, that this isn't just a prank, but someone posing as her father to do harm.

"I don't want to see this happen to anybody else," she said.

It's a family mystery they'd like solved, so that they, and their dad, can finally rest in peace.
