ATLANTA (AP) - The Carter Center in Atlanta is hosting a discussion about human rights violations during Argentina's Dirty War, which lasted from 1976 to 1983.

Organizers say former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will lead a discussion during the sold-out event on Wednesday. The war, also known as the Process of National Reorganization, was an effort to silence political dissidents.

Carter Center officials say tens of thousands of people were arrested, tortured and killed during war, which Carter protested by withdrawing military and economic support.

Organizers say panelists for the discussion include former U.S. Embassy officer in Argentina, Tex Harris and former editor of the English-language Buenos Aires Herald.

Officials say the discussion will also feature a documentary screening and the event will be webcast live online.
