COMMERCE, Ga. - Detectives with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are trying to determine why a Commerce man shot and killed himself after a felony traffic stop Sunday evening.

According to Commerce Police Chief John Gaissert, officers spotted what they believed was a stolen Ford F-150 around 7:22 p.m. Sunday. They initiated a felony stop on the two men inside the pickup truck at the BP Gas Station located in the 500 block of S. Elm Street.

Officers said the passenger exited the vehicle and was quickly taken into custody. As officers approached the cab with their guns drawn, they saw the driver point a gun at his head and pull the trigger. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Detectives later identified the driver as Glenn Anthony Ogden, 52, of Commerce. Police say Ogden was a convicted felon and a registered sex offender.

The UGA Bomb Squad was asked to investigate the scene after police discovered what appeared to be a grenade in the back floorboard. After several hours, the scene was cleared and the object was determined to not be a live explosive.

Chief Gaissert asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to handle the case given the circumstances of the incident. He tells FOX 5 News that his officers did not discharge any firearms during the incident.

Ogden's body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

The name of the passenger and any possible charges for him have not yet been released.
