Search for missing boater on Lake St. Clair

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -- The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is looking for a 33-year-old Julian Martinez from Shelby Township. Witnesses say Martinez jumped into the waters of Lake St. Clair near the mouth of the Clinton River and never resurfaced.

Police say seven people were on a boat when one woman fell into the water. Two men jumped in went save her.

"A female occupant was on the side of the boat when another female though it would be a cute idea to push her into the water," says Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. "When they could see that she was in distress two other occupants jumped off the boat, one being our victim."

The woman and one of her rescuers made it out of the water safely.

The search continues for the Martinez, but with currents and choppy waves police are now calling the search a recovery effort. More than 20 people, including six master divers, have been involved in the search.
