Heart attack victim saved by gym trainers

BUFORD, Ga. -

A Gainesville man says he would have died if it weren’t for the quick actions of some gym trainers.

Counte Cooley had just wrapped up a game of racquetball at an LA Fitness in Buford and says he felt great, but minutes later fell to the ground.

Cooley, 69, doesn’t remember much but says when he woke up his doctor told him he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the three people who came to his aid.

Personal trainer Melissa Hazen was with a client when she heard all the commotion and realized how serious the situation was. Hazen grabbed the AED machine off the wall.

One of Hazen’s fellow trainers and a bystander started CPR. They dialed 911 and an ambulance happened to be at the light right outside the club.

Cooley tells FOX 5 when he woke up at the hospital his doctor told him he was lucky to be alive.

Cooley and his wife are grateful to the people who came to his aid.

“It is very emotional every time I think about everything that happened that night and how willing and well trained everyone at LA Fitness was. They saved his life,” said Jackie Cooley.

Cooley tells FOX 5 after feeling better he did go meet those who saved his life and took them out to dinner.
