Brooklyn flag thief angers residents

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Windsor Terrace section of Brooklyn was decorated in patriotic spirit for Independence Day... Until a person captured on surveillance video stole 7 American flags in the neighborhood.

Grainy video shows a male wearing blue denim shorts with a bandanna stealing a flag from the front of a home July 4th morning. He stuffs it into one of two backpacks before heading back to his bicycle and riding off.

Many of those flags have an even deeper meaning, specifically to the D'Agostos. The flag stolen from their home belonged to John's grandfather, Sal Marvaisio, a WWII veteran who fought in New Guinea.

”It really hurts” John D’Agosto told us.

“My father in law type of guy who would forgive him...I'm not like my father in law” he said.
