Habitat for Humanity job site heist in Macomb County

Posted: Updated:
ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) - They say it's not a helping hand...it's a hand up. Habitat for Humanity builds homes for people who need a break. But now a shocking and sickening crime. Habitat becomes a target.

Play the video to get the report from Ron Savage.  Ladies in the lumberyard. Macomb Habitat's Women Build program. That means a team of women build the home. The home is on Blair near 10 Mile Road and Gratiot in Roseville is a Women Build project. The women locked up a truck, loaded with construction tools after work and left the truck on the job site. But the next morning?

The truck was here but it was cleaned out. Gone: A six thousand watt Troy Bilt generator, a new Dewalt chop saw and at least four thousand dollars worth of tools stolen from a truck clearly marked Habitat for Humanity. There was nothing humane about the acts of this low life thief.

A single mom with children is planning to move in to the home,  now she's uncertain when her new home will be ready.

Macomb County Habitat is hoping someone sees their tools and generator and turns this thief in. In the meantime they'd be grateful if anyone has surplus construction tools to donate.

The Habitat homeowner is required to put in 250 hours actually building their own home. Those who qualify get a zero interest loan, monthly payments are approximately $500. This build is on hold.  If you see their tools or have info call Roseville Police: (586) 447-4475.

If you have tool to lend or want to make a donation go to: http://www.macombhabitat.org/
