Julius Randle: It Made Me The Biggest Laker Fan

Posted: Updated:

"I don't know if I'll go Hollywood, I'll be the same me but I think I'm ready for it."

Julius Randle was introduced in El Segundo this week as the newest Los Angeles Laker...having been picked seventh in the NBA draft last month. So how does the rookie feel about being in the L.A. spotlight?

"I come from a place in Lexington where the spotlight is on you every day...they worship Kentucky basketball so I'm a little adjusted to it and I think it prepared me."

Randle also talked about his shot at playing with Kobe...who wasted no time reaching out to him.

"He texted me after I was drafted and congratulated me so I talked to him a little bit...he has been my idol from a young age, I always idolized him and that's what always made me the biggest Laker fan and now I have a chance to learn from him."

Randle also put on his Laker uniform for the first time Monday, still sporting the number 30. That number belonged to his mom and when he was in grade school, he asked her about wearing it.

"I was like 'can I wear your number'? She was like 'if you're gonna wear my number, you gotta do something with it' so that's kinda the connection, so ever since then it's been my number."

And what about his foot? Will that affect him before he laces up for a game?

"I think I find out about my foot sometime this week, so I've been doing some physicals and stuff and getting information on that..."

And finally, any chance Julius knows who his coach will be?

"You all know just as much as me."
