GILBERT, Ariz. - It's been ten days since more than 20 dogs died at a Gilbert boarding house, and we still don't know if the owners or caretakers are going to face any charges.

The sheriff's office has not obtained a warrant to search the property and investigators have not re-interviewed any of the people who were supposed to be caring for the dogs.

Sheriff Arpaio says he wants to make sure this is done right, and that takes time. As we've been reporting Senator Jeff Flake's son and his wife were supposed to be watching over the dogs.

When we got a chance to speak with Arpaio we started asking him if he knows where Austin and Logan Flake are.

"We do not know where Austin and his wife are, but I am sure that we will make contact soon," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

We know the sheriff's office has interviewed many of the owners of the dead dogs. But since their first visit to the home on Saturday the 21st they haven't re-interviewed the owners of the business or Austin and Logan Flake.

The young couple was supposed to be in charge of the operation while the owners, Logan's parents, were out of town. They told deputies a dog ate through a wall and chewed through a wire knocking out power to the air conditioner.

Arpaio says, if investigators have to, they will travel out of state to re-interview the couple. According to a Linked-In profile, Austin Flake is a student at BYU in Utah.

"The case regarding the dogs is one of our top priorities, and we are very aggressive, so we will go anywhere to get evidence or probable cause," he said.

At a vigil over the weekend many of the dog's owners wondered why it was taking investigators so long to get a search warrant.

"To get search warrants you need probable cause, you need evidence, and we are doing this right, we anticipate a search warrant will be issued soon," said Arpaio.

Initially, the reports were that 17 dogs had died at the Green Acre Boarding Facility. Now that number is up to 21 dogs.
