3 critically injured after trapped inside burning apartment

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ariz. - Three people were critically injured after being trapped inside a burning apartment near 107th Avenue and Northern overnight.

The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m., and when crews arrived, three people were trapped inside an apartment.

At this time we only know that the three victims are described as young adults: one man and two women.

They some how got trapped in one of the burning units and called for help..

Firefighters arrived and pulled them from the apartment. We're told they're in critical condition.

"When we were coming in, we got reports over the radio that the victims were on the phone with 911, letting them know they were in the back bathroom," said Peoria Fire Capt. Billy Morris. "When we found them, they were unresponsive in the bathroom and we were able to pull them out."

The fire caved in the townhouse's roof, and another town house also was badly damaged. Six other units had smoke or fire damage.

The cause is under investigation.
