Pinal deputy cleared in fatal shooting in Eloy

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Attorney General's Office has cleared a Pinal County sheriff's deputy of wrongdoing in the fatal January shooting of a car theft suspect.
Manuel Longoria died Jan. 14 after being shot twice by the deputy in Eloy.
Investigators say the 40-year-old had stolen a car then led authorities on a 40-minute chase before he was stopped and surrounded by deputies and police with guns drawn. They say he refused to surrender and that the deputy thought Longoria had a gun when he fired the fatal shots.
Sheriff's officials say the Attorney General's Office cleared the deputy of any wrongdoing. The FBI is still reviewing the case.
Video taken by a witness of the shooting appeared to show Longoria throwing his hands in the air before being shot, but authorities say it is misleading.
