CHARGES: Burger King drive-thru theft busts identity thieves

Posted: Updated:
WOODBURY, Minn. (KMSP) -

A trip to the drive-thru wound up had some customers sizzling mad in Woodbury after a pair of Burger King employees allegedly stole their credit card information and used it on some pricey purchases.

In the movie "Lethal Weapon 2," Joe Pesci delivered an infamous rant about the hazards of going through a drive-thru -- and in Minnesota, it seems a pair of workers tried to pull a fast one on an unsuspecting diner.

Although they were supposed to help customers get their fill of fast food, prosecutors say two employees were having it their way with their customer's financial information. It started back in March when a woman who went through the drive-through realized she never got her credit card back a day later. She also discovered someone had used it to buy a television at a nearby Walmart.

When police went to the Burger King to investigate, they found the woman's credit card was still in the safe; however, police also noticed when Denatre Squalls dropped off his queen -- Prechez Anderson -- to begin her shift.

Later, police spotted Squalls who was seen picking up a nearly $700 flat screen in surveillance video taken from a Walmart in Eagan, but investigators say the pair also tried to purchase about $2,800 worth of merchandise from Apple.com with the card too.

At a Woodbury hotel, police found the ingredients for an identity theft ring -- 17 Social Security cards, driver's licenses, birth certificates and credit card applications. The couple had also apparently rented two storage units in Maplewood, which is where police found the television and a bunch of video game consoles the two bought at Toys 'R' Us.

Both Squalls and Anderson are now charged with aiding and abetting financial card fraud; however, investigators say the case is still open and more charges could be on the way.
