JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - -  The U.S. Supreme Court declined Monday to hear an appeal from Samuel Parramore, who was convicted in 2006 of statutory rape and touching a child for lustful purposes.
Parramore was sentenced in Harrison County to 40 years for statutory rape plus a consecutive 10-year term for touching. Parramore was seeking a post-conviction review of his case.
Mississippi courts upheld his conviction in 2009.
Prosecutors say the victim was 7 at the time of the crimes in 2001 and Parramore was a family acquaintance.
On appeal, Parramore argued the jury erred in believing the child's testimony and the evidence didn't show he touched the child.
Mississippi courts said those were issues for the jury to decide and let Parramore's conviction stand.
