WAUKEGAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A north suburban man who fatally stabbed a man during a fight was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Sunday after being charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to police.

Juan Guajardo, 39, was fighting with 40-year-old Manuel Alaniz, at 2:18 a.m. Saturday when he stabbed him and another man in the 600 block of North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, a statement from Waukegan police said.

Both were taken to Vista East Hospital, where Alaniz later died. The other man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.

Police said Guajardo and Alaniz, who lived in the same house but were not related, got into a fight outside the home, and the second man was injured trying to intervene. The reason for the fight was not known.

The weapon Guajardo used was recovered, police said.

Guajardo was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Sunday on one count each of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s office website.

He will next appear in court in Waukegan on July 29.
