Henderson

The Minnesota National Guard has been deployed to Henderson, Minn., about 50 miles southwest of Minneapolis and 15 miles north of St. Peter, Minn. The town was nearly cut-off by mudslides and roads left underwater after getting more than 7 inches of rain in just 24 hours.

20 members of the Mankato-based “Headquarters and Headquarters Company” will support Sibley County with flood response activities. The mayor is asking residents to help build the city’s flood wall.

"Our soldiers are ready to assist our neighbors near the Minnesota River as flood waters continue to rise there and across the state," said Lt. Col. Rick Schute.

Metro sewer system

The Metropolitan Council owns and operates the regional wastewater collection and treatment system, which carries wastewater from 107 metro municipalities to 7 area treatment plants. These systems have been running “beyond their designed maximum operating capacities” to keep up with the rainwater that entered the sanitary sewer systems this week. FULL STORY

University of Minnesota Medical Center at Riverside

A massive mudslide behind the University of Minnesota Medical Center at Riverside dumped 6 to 8 feet of mud and tree debris on West River Parkway. First reports of the hill collapse began to come in just after 7 p.m. Thursday from drivers who narrowly missed the slide. A 100-yard swath of the hill came crashing down, blocking the street about 100 feet below. It could be days before the dirt and debris is cleared, but officials do not believe any cars were swept away. FULL STORY

Flooding along the Cannon River left Northfield, Minn. looking more like Venice, Italy. The Cannon River has risen nearly 7 feet, flowing right up to the edge of some businesses in the heart of the city. Employees used dozens of sandbags to try and stop the water, but it's already flooded the lower level of some buildings. FULL STORY

Scott County

Parts of the well-traveled Highway 169 were shut down, and some residents were ordered to evacuate. In Shakopee, Minn., a woman had to be rescued from her car after driving around a "road closed" sign. In no time, the water went up to the middle of her car door and she started to panic.

Mudslides covered highways and railroad tracks in Jordan, Minn. and flooding left entire farms and neighborhoods underwater. Emergency crews said it could be days before the water starts to recede
