VIDEO: Dogs Attacks Police Officer During Routine Traffic Stop

Posted: Updated:

A routine traffic stop in Florida turns vicious when three dogs attack the officers.

Dash cam video shows officers Joe Calderone and Brian Bossio pulling over a driver in Stuart, Florida.

The woman driving the vehicle first got out to speak with the officers because Calderone couldn't hear what she was saying.

"I couldn't really hear what she was saying, so she got out of her car and while she was trying to get out of the car, the dogs kind of rushed over her," he recalled.

That's when her three dogs rushed over to protect her. The video shows the dogs jumping out of the truck and biting Calderone three times.

"It just happened so quick. They bit my right knee and behind my left thigh," said Calderone. "I just a quick thought to get some separation from the dogs, get some distance in between, so I didn't keep getting bit."

"Obviously, officers will be more alert in these situations, and we ask people if you do have dogs that could be aggressive to let us know right off the bat, roll down your window, and tell us that," Bossio said.

"Nobody wants to shoot a dog especially with their owner right there. Luckily, I didn't have to."

Calderone is being treatment at a nearby health clinic and says his injuries are healing quickly.

"They cleaned it up, put a bandage on it, and gave me a tetanus shot," Calderone said.

The Stuart Police Department says there is no formal training for incidents like this one. The dog's owner was also cited by animal control.
