Life Time Athletic will soon welcome gym members to its new location at 4106 Telegraph Rd. in Bloomfield Township. The club officially opens Saturday, June 21 at 4 a.m.
Here's Life Time's suggested routine for an outdoor workout:
Driveway walking lunge (add kettlebell pass between legs for progression)
Quick sprint back to starting lunge position (high knee skips for modification)
Burpee with hand weights into a shoulder press (modify with plank into shoulder press)
Repeat for 3-5 rounds
Finish with side plank dips inside while you cool off (hold side plank for modification)
Tips to Remember
Drink at least half your body weight in ounce/day - water drank during exercise does not count, hydration is vital to your bodies performance and regulating body temperature.
Nutrition Know How
You want to eat a protein like chicken, fish or beef along with a veggie and a good fat at each meal. Proper nutrition is vital to your bodies performance and recovery after any workout but especially when you're sweating it out outside.
Sometimes just having water isn't enough and when it's overly hot outside and it's key to balance your electrolytes. Often people think they should get some sugar but that's not always the case. Drinks like Elevate by ThorneFx or Aspire Beverages are great electrolyte drinks for performance and recovery.
Consider a Heart Rate Monitor
A heart rate monitor is a great tool to use whether indoors or outdoors to understand how much stress you are putting on your body. And, when you're exercising outside you may need to slow down.
As in wear looser fitting and lighter colored clothes to help reflect the heat. You can look for high-tech running shirts and shorts that are designed to help keep you cool and also think about wearing a hat or a visor to keep your face protected.
