Lightning hits 3 Lakeville homes including 1-year-old's bedroom

Lightning is believed to have started fires in three homes on one block in Lakeville, Minn. on Thursday morning. Officials believe a bolt of lightning struck a tree, went through a gas line and ignited the flames. No injuries have been reported.

About 25 firefighters were on-scene to help after the fire was called in around 5:15 a.m. Seven homes had their gas cut off to repair damage to underground gas lines, but all gas was expected to be back on by late Thursday morning.

Homeowner Curt Parrish said the lightning that hit his 1-year-old daughter's bedroom started the fire. The family just moved into the home in October and are still working with their new interior and plans were in the works to install a new deck. Now, they have plenty more work ahead of them to restore the damage.

"Happy to see my house still standing even though it's got a little charring, but it's still there, we can rebuild that," Parrish said. "It could have been a heck of a lot worse, my 1-year-old daughter was in that room so it could have been way worse."

Everyone escaped the home safely.

Both occupants in another home nearly slept through the event. A woman inside heard thunder but went back to sleep, her husband sleeping soundly as well. She said she woke up to banging on their garage -- someone warning the couple to escape. Their home received the most visible damage of the three, their living room and kitchen completely destroyed. Their two children are with their grandmother up north and missed the entire ordeal.
