Four charged after police seize $33K worth of drugs in McHenry County

MCHENRY, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Four people are facing drug charges after local police and federal agents seized over $33,000 worth of heroin, cocaine and marijuana last week in the northwest suburbs.

On June 13, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit helped the Department of Homeland Security with a narcotics investigation in both McHenry and unincorporated Crystal Lake, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Two homes were searched, and officers found 120 grams of heroin, 251 grams of cocaine and 136 grams of marijuana, the sheriff’s office said. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $33,000.

Multiple other items were seized, including drug paraphernalia, a semi-automatic handgun, more than $28,000 in cash and two vehicles, the sheriff’s office said.

A 33-year-old Crystal Lake woman was ordered held on $250,000 bond. Berta Luz Alferez De Linares is charged with five felony counts: unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, unlawful possession with intent to deliver heroin, unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession with intent to deliver cocaine and unlawful possession of cocaine, the sheriff’s office said.

Three McHenry residents also face drug-related felony charges and were ordered held on $150,000 bond, the sheriff’s office said.

Antonio Santana-Becerra, 22, is charged with unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, unlawful possession with intent to deliver heroin and unlawful possession of heroin.

Ruben Santana-Rubio, 18, is charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver cocaine and unlawful possession of cocaine, the sheriff’s office said. He also faces a misdemeanor count each of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Augustin Santana-Rubio, 22, is charged with unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, unlawful possession with intent to deliver heroin and unlawful possession of heroin, the sheriff’s office said.

All will next appear at the McHenry County courthouse July 9 at 9 a.m.
