SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (FOX13) - Teachers in Shelby County Schools won't be getting raises this year, but they will get a bonus.

This after state funding fell below expectations. The bonuses will be based on performance.

Teachers at the top level of the performance scale will get a $1,250 bonus. Those at the bottom will get just $250.
The district will use $6.4 million originally budgeted for seniority increases to pay for the bonuses.

The district will also begin paying an additional three-percent of health care premium costs next year that was based on the results of an employee benefit survey.
