DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - It took a Shelby County Criminal Court jury only two hours to sentence 31-year-old triple murderer Sedrick Clayton to death late Sunday after a seven-day trial.

Clayton was convicted Saturday after several hours of jury deliberations of killing his girlfriend and both of her parents in January 2012.

Lead defense attorney Gerald Skahan told reporters Sunday that neither the verdict nor the sentence surprised him based not only on his uphill battle after Clayton's confession, but also because of the racial makeup of the jury.
