LUVERNE, Minn. (KMSP) -

Gov. Mark Dayton had planned to visit the Minnesota towns of Luverne and Edgerton on Monday to survey flood damage in the area after 4 inches of rain fell overnight, but the forecast made him settle for a conference call.

The governor will tour the area on Friday to see the damage left by weekend storms, which brought heavy rains that actually broke a spillway connected to the 77-year-old dam in Luverne.

It was the first time in the history of the dam that water rushed gushed through the area, and many residents are left with a devastating mess.

The Minnesota State Patrol shared a photograph of road flooding in Rock County, and they warn all motorists not to drive through flooded areas.
