MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - We've seen our share of natural disasters this year. If one strikes here, will you and your family prepared? What if you are separated during an emergency? There are some basic steps to make sure you keep your household safe.

Kim Motschman Cribb, Community Development and Public Affairs Manager at the American Red Cross, shares some tips on how to stay safe in an emergency by having a good Family Emergency Plan.

1.       Make a disaster kit for your family

2.       Plan what to do in case you are separated

3.       Plan what to do if you have to evacuate

4.       Let  your family know you're safe

5.       Be informed by downloading the free Red Cross mobile apps to keep you informed

If your community has experienced a disaster, register on the American Red Cross Safe and Well website to let your family and friends know you are safe. You may also call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and select the prompt for "Disaster" to register yourself and your family.
