CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. (FOX13) - The West Memphis Police Department says they arrested two females Saturday afternoon for vandalizing the newly erected Fallen Officers Memorial in Worthington Park.

Police says Lacey Friddle, 19, and Jessica LaPradd, 25, both of Marion, were observed along with three young children, scratching words and symbols on the sides of the memorial.

The Fallen Officers Memorial was built and paid for primarily through fund raising events and private donations at a cost of between $300,000 and $400,000.  The memorial was built to honor all Crittenden County Police Officers and Firemen who gave their lives in the line of duty.  The earliest of these dates back to 1895.

Police say early figures estimate the damage to the memorial to be between $5,000 and $50,000.

Chief Donald Oakes stated, “I am saddened to learn of the damage to the memorial and the example being set for these young children.  I cannot understand why two so-called adults would choose to desecrate a place honoring men who made such a sacrifice for their community.  It would be the same to me as smashing headstones at a cemetery.  Every citizen of this county should be angry and appalled at this disrespectful act.”

Both women have been charged with Felony Criminal Mischief and multiple counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and are being held at the Crittenden county Detention Center on temporary bonds of $50,000.  They are set to appear in Crittenden County District Court on Monday Morning.
