Kayaker Loses His Life After Boat Capsizes

Posted: Updated:
A family outing turns tragic today. A husband, wife and their two daughters went kayaking today on the Wolf River when an accident happened resulting in rescue efforts.

The mother and two daughters were able to make it to safety, but were not able to rescue the father after his boat capsized , leading them to run for help. That’s when the call came in to the Germantown Fire Department at 2:15 according to Chief Alan Jones with the Germantown Fire Department.

A Memphis Motorcycle officer spotted the victim traveling west bound on the river and called Memphis Fire Department to assist in the rescue efforts.  Chief Jones says a Hospital wing was already in the area of the accident and was able to locate the victim and transport him to Baptist East where he later died. The name of the victim has not been released pending next of kin notification.

Fox13 will speak to Chief Jones tonight on Fox13 news at 9pm.
