Soldier Receives Hero's Welcome Home In Pottstown

Posted: Updated:
POTTSTOWN, Pa. -  "It was awesome to have people be there for you to come back and say thank you for everything," said Army Specialist Joseph Anderson. He's back from a nine month tour in Afghanistan.

"I haven't seen him in almost two years and Skype doesn't count," said his mother. Members of  W
arriors Watch gave him a hero's escort to his home in Pottstown, where he had no idea that his entire family and closest friends would all be waiting.  Most of them were in tears and with mixed emotions.

"Driving home I said I'm thankful that he's home but I feel so bad for the moms whose sons and daughters didn't make it home. That's really who the heroes are," said Joseph's mother Pat.
But J
oseph is a hero, especially to his father who also served in the military.

"He's proud himself but he doesn't want to show it. I'm very proud of him," said Joseph's father Neil.

Joseph brought home with him a Purple Heart after he and six others from his platoon suffered concussions during a car bomb attack.

"He doesn't want any fame or glory or anybody making a big deal about it because to him he just did what he was supposed to do," said his mother. His sister says
it's been a long road from then to today.

"I remember what it was like to get the phone call that day saying that his base was under attack. Just to have your life flash before you and you're like someone so important to me might not make it back. So to see him here in the flesh is good. I can pick on him some more," laughed his sister Sarah.

"I just wish more people could have something like this," said Joseph. He will spend the next few weeks home with family before heading back overseas to Germany.
