SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (FOX13) - Former Southaven Alderman Ronnie Hale is one of the most vocally opposed to former mayor Greg Davis and many of his actions while he was in office.

Hale commented Thursday a day after a DeSoto County Circuit Court jury found Davis guilty of embezzlement and charges he made false statements to defraud the government.

Hale said he knew it was coming but he just wasn't sure when.

"Well, you know I think it's been a long time coming, you know?," Hale said. "Justice takes time and I guess we all knew this day would eventually happen and I think everything happened the way it would."

Hale said he feels the former mayor's conviction is a victory for the city of Southaven.

"It's because we fought this tooth and nail for several years on some things and he knew it was wrong in my opinion," he said. "I just couldn't understand why he chose to do things his way."

Hale said not all the things the former mayor did for the city were bad.

"He did a lot of good things for the city but doing good doesn't justify doing the wrong so ....," he said.

Current Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite commented Thursday on Davis' embezzlement conviction.

"I believe in justice and accountability, but I also believe in forgiveness," Mayor Musselwhite said. "It's now time for all. Our City started our healing process a year ago and we are much better. I wish the same for Greg Davis."
