MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - With all the bad news concerning the VA administration it is always good to hear some good news.

Volunteers from AT&T in Memphis came to the Memphis VA Medical Center to spend the day giving back to the men and women who have served this country. And, they are not alone nor are they the first to give their time to the VA for vets.

The VA could not operate without volunteers. Hundreds of them volunteer at every VA hospital in the country every single day.

Ronika Anderson is the director of volunteer services at the VA. She says, “We have over 400 regular scheduled volunteers who come throughout the week that do different activities. Then we have our special event volunteers that come in and do our special events, our fun things like what AT&T did today.”

Chuck Thomas, with AT&T Memphis says, "They are preparing 500 lunches and snacks for the vets. They are also making sure all the plants are watered and we are serving lemon aid and diet cookies to the vets and we're washing wheel chairs.”

The volunteers come from everywhere. Even disabled vets volunteer at the VA.

Disabled vet volunteer Leo Lawson says, "I am a volunteer and it’s a blessing to give back to others what you have received.”

In a day to day life in the world it’s always good to help others because you never know when you will need help.

You too can volunteer or donate to the Memphis VA Medical Center. Click here to find out how.
