After an unexpected primary victory in Virginia on Tuesday where Tea Party-backed economics professor David Brat defeated House Majority Eric Cantor, the second most powerful man in the House, the Tea Party has set its sights on another high-profile GOP target, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.).

Sen. Alexander faces Tea Party  challenger Tenn. State Rep. Joe Carr (R-District 48) in the Aug. 7 primary.

With the loss in Virginia shining a spotlight on Tea Party challengers, State Rep. Carr is making the rounds in the media this week, attempting to paint Sen. Alexander as another out-of-touch, establishment Republican.

A spokesperson for the Alexander campaign said quote "Senator Alexander is doing what he's always done: Staying connected with Tennessee and being the best senator he can possibly be."
