MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) – - Assault rifles stolen from the Walmart Supercenter in Cordova in February were used in a shootout with Shelby County Sheriff's detectives on Monday, FOX13 News has learned.

Twenty-four-year-old Rodenick Winston is facing a charge of criminal attempted murder after firing on narcotics detectives as they were serving a warrant on Maple Drive in North Memphis.

"…(O)ne round narrowly misses one of the narcotic detectives that was standing at a hatch leading under the house," detectives wrote in an affidavit of complaint.

Detectives recovered two assault rifles and spent ammunition from the scene.  A Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesman confirms the rifles were traced back to a theft at the Walmart Supercenter in Cordova on Feb. 10.

"We are extremely grateful that no one was hurt in yesterday's incident and we appreciate all that law enforcement is doing to help keep the community safe," said Walmart spokeswoman Dianna Gee.

Six assault rifles and one .22 caliber long rifle were stolen from a display case in the Walmart store. Security photos released by the Memphis Police Department show two men taking the rifles and leaving the store.

The Walmart Supercenter in Cordova has taken its firearms inventory off the sales floor and temporarily halted firearms sales at the location according to a spokeswoman. Customers interested in buying firearms will be directed to other Walmart locations.

Winston is also facing theft of property charges related to the stolen guns. Each of the assault rifles is worth more than $1,000.00.
