In response to a critical shortage of O-negative blood and an impending shortage of all other blood types, Lifeblood is seeking donors to help stabilize the community blood supply and support local hospitals and trauma centers during the summer months when the need for blood is high but donations are historically low.

Lifeblood’s fifth annual Donor Fest, a month-long blood drive blitz, is going on until July 3 in all of Lifeblood’s donor centers and at mobile blood drives. Lifeblood is encouraging all eligible donors to stop by and give blood. Donors must be 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh 115 lbs. and be in generally good health.

Donors who give blood or platelets through July 3 will receive a limited edition Donor Fest shirt. They may choose to surrender the shirt in exchange for a contribution to be made in their name to one of the following organizations: Mid-South Transplant Foundation, Sickle Cell Foundation, American Cancer Society or Lifeblood.

For a listing of public blood drives in June or to locate the nearest Lifeblood donor center, visit lifeblood.org or call 1-888-LIFEBLOOD.
