ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

A 16-year-old boy has died and a 14-year-old boy was wounded after a shooting inside a home in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County.

Police say an 18-year-old fired a handgun that struck the teens, but so far, no charges have been filed.

Fairfax County police have released few details about what happened inside the townhouse where the shooting occurred. Investigators have recovered a handgun and they have questioned the teen who did the shooting. But what led up to the gunfire is unknown at this time.

The 16-year-old victim, Kevin Johnson, was an aspiring rapper. His grandmother, who came to the scene Tuesday afternoon, said her son played music and Johnson was following in his footsteps.

"He liked music,” said Diane Bell, Johnson’s grandmother. “I never thought that he would get in trouble or anything like that. That's not him. But he loved his little music and he sat back with his little earphones, be with his little friends and play. But I never thought he would be in something like this.”

On Tuesday night, more than a hundred loved ones and community members gathered for a prayer vigil. Some friends played Johnson's music in tribute.

His foster mother and sister, Karsha, were among the crowd.

Karsha made a plea for justice saying, “Somebody took his life. Somebody took that away from us and we can’t get that back.”
