Veteran put on deceased list while fighting cancer

Posted: Updated:

A local Vietnam veteran spent almost two years on a deceased list with the VA, even though he was very much alive and fighting kidney cancer.

Connor Mobbs says he didn’t hear anything from the VA for a year after he filed a claim with the VA for his kidney cancer.

He went in person to the VA office in Cartersville and discovered he was put on the deceased list.

“They did not have a record of an appeal, and when they pulled me up on the screen that guy that used to work at that office wrote me down as deceased and hadn't filed my appeal,” said Mobbs.

Mobbs spent months trying to get off the deceased list and filed more claims and appeals.

Mobbs is not at the stage where he can request to see a military judge and present his case, but he says the VA has told him it could be up to five years before he gets to go before that judge.
