16 seniors snubbed in Burnsville High School yearbook

Posted: Updated:

When people think back to their high school days, it seems only natural to grab a yearbook and look over the photographs of time gone by -- but a mix-up at a metro school means some seniors won't be able to.

More than a dozen Burnsville High School students won't see their pictures in the final yearbook of their high school careers, and it's still a mystery as to why.

Students who spoke with Fox 9 News off camera have their theories, but the administration says none of the rumors are credible.

"We were aware of several of the rumors going around. We followed up with the incident, worked closely with the yearbook publisher, and there is no evidence this was intentional or any individual purposely went in and sabotaged the yearbook," Principal Dave Helke said.

Nevertheless, one thing is certain -- there are a number of disappointed seniors.

"My picture was supposed to be around here somewhere," Greta Geist told Fox 9 News. "It's not like I sent my yearbook picture in late. I sent it in on time and I was looking forward to it."

It's already been a difficult year for Geist, who battled Hodgkin's lymphoma and is now in remission.

"I felt like I was going through a lot, obviously, and I was really excited because I was cured," she said. "Ready to finish this year. Then, I wasn't even in it."

The end of the year was supposed to be a celebration of it all working out, but instead, she says it's a "bummer."

Geist isn't the only student left out either. There are 15 other seniors whose pictures were omitted as well -- and they aren't getting answers as to why.

"Unfortunately, with our follow up, there was no evidence that was conclusive in terms of what occurred," Helke.

As for Geist, she's trying to move forward -- but it's difficult because she recently found out her friends were going to surprise her with a tribute page dedicated to her cancer battle. Unfortunately, that was left out too.

"After a while, it's over with -- but I would love to know what happened. Not just for myself, but all the seniors," she said.

Helke said he plans to send a personal letter of apology to each of the affected students, and a supplemental page with each of the seniors' pictures will be sent out during the summer. The school also said it is putting plans in place to make sure this doesn't happen again.
