Woman arrested for DUI with 7 children in truck

Posted: Updated:
A Jonesboro woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment on Memorial Day weekend.

The woman, Krystal Griffis, 30, was stopped by a Henry County officer near the Hudson Bridge Road exit off Interstate 75 around 2 a.m. on May 24 after an officer observed her vehicle making quick jerk movements.

When the officer approached the car, he smelled the odor of "raw marijuana" emanating from the vehicle. Officers also observed 7 children in the truck along with Griffis' boyfriend, Darius Edwards. According to a report, four children were seated in the back seat and three in the cargo area -- none of them appeared to be buckled in.

After the stop, Griffis exited the vehicle and proceeded to "grab her shirt and bra from the top and pull them outward, exposing her breast" to the officer after he asked her about concealing marijuana on her person. According to the officer, Griffis exhibited slurred speech and had "red bloodshot eyes." She admitted to drinking two alcoholic beverages: a Strawberry Margarita and a rasberita, earlier in the day.

Griffis failed a field sobriety test and blew a .087 BAC. She was transported to the Henry County Jail. She was charged with DUI Less Safe Alcohol, 7 counts of Endangering a Minor by DUI, Possession of Less than 1 Ounce of Marijuana, 3 counts of seatbelt violation, 4 courts of child safety seat violations, driving on a suspended license and giving a false name.

The children in the car ranged from 2 to 12-years old. Griffis' boyfriend, Darius Edwards, was also transported to jail.

FOX 5 spoke with Griffis and she denies everything police say about her arrest.

"Everybody had seatbelts on," said Griffis.
