PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police Department's top cop is the latest victim of a crime.

Investigators say Chief Daniel Garcia had his police uniforms stolen at the dry cleaners; they're hoping no one impersonates an officer.

The dry cleaner located off 12th St & Northern also has a public laundromat inside. Employees say they put the chief's uniforms in the public coin-operated washer and dryer while other customers were washing their clothes.

While the clothes were in the dryer, someone reached in and grabbed all of them including the chief's uniforms.

"It's pretty crazy... I can see how that happened; there are so many places that buy and sell and trade clothes," said resident Adam Flesor.

An employee at Suntown tells FOX 10 they don't think the thief was intentionally trying to steal a police uniform. She says it's common for people to steal an entire load of laundry from laundromats.

The chief's uniforms that were stolen look like any other Phoenix Police uniform. His name plate, badge, and his pins were all removed before he took them to the cleaners.

When the chief found out about the theft, police say he immediately reported it. There is one detective assigned to the case.
